Training Log: Entry 86

Went to another Aikido class.  Lot of work on standing wrist locks.  Fun stuff.  Picked up some good principles on control.  Managed to help correct my training partners.  Seem to be picking this stuff up pretty well.  Chalk it up to previous experience.

  1. The first time i ever worked on standing wrist locks was in a private trial lesson and i almost blacked out.Everything faded and i couldn`t see and i was super dizzy, and the Sensei was talking about something, and i was trying so hard to pay attention until i finally was like "hang on, i`m getting kinda dizzy."

  2. Hello, been a while since i checked up on your xanga, I haven't even looked at mine for what feels like forever. I didn't know you were takeing aikido know. Definitely will help ya on your path to becoming a better fighter if you can improve your grappling with it. Kinda funny how your over 190 these days, your making it easier and easier for me to stay under your weight even if i am gaining a little weight unintentionally . Anyways, Glad to hear your doing ok. you'll have to teach me some of the stuff you learn over summer which is coming up pretty soon for you isn't it?

  3. Ja, summer at the end of the month.  Definately be game for it.  Be headin' to China in May, maybe catch some stuff.
I think Aikdio would really be your thing Mike.  Maybe some Capo too =P  I've actually been kicking around the idea of doing a little capo, but we'll see.

  4. Sounds like the Aikido class is having some benefits for you.  Sounds like you are doing well and continuing to help others correct themselves.  Keep up the awesome work... I'm proud of you.  ~aloha~

  5. I missed the first lesson of Capo they held at my school over the weekend due to laziness and being slightly hung over. Plan to try it out next weekend though. though. Aikido is sounding pretty cool from what you've said. For some reason I always thought it would be kinda boring and full of boring "traditional"ish stuff. Guess I was wrong.
Oh and I've hated wrist locks ever since ATKD when my teacher wouldn't let me out of one an laughed as I writhed in pain and jumped when he'd apply more pressure. He was an asshole sometimes, but damn that little Korean man was fucking hilarious.

  6. It depends on where you go for Aikido. I'm learning it from a student on campus who's known me for a while. I'm really just hunting for principles rather than attempting to actually learn the system. I won't use it to defend against an attack, but I now have a better understanding of how the body works.
