Training Log: Entry 248

MT class:
Warm-up
Drilling
Conditioning

Warmup was just some straight punches and kicks, then 50 right and 50 left kicks.  Decent shin conditioning.

Drills:
Simple boxing and low kicks.  Defender parrys and checks low kick
Notes: Once again messing around with stance due to flaws pointed out to me at the throwdown.  More relaxed and hands further away from face.  Made parrying require less effort, yet more attacks have an opportunity to get in.  Need to work.

Sparring under these rules.  Noticed my chin was untucked and I was looking for shots.  Quickly fixed this.

Simple boxing and rib kick.  Defender parries and catches.
Note: Remember not to stretch arm out for kick catch.  With my love of catching kicks, I need to learn this lesson.

Sparring under these rules.  Dropped hands a little.

Simple boxing and head kick.  Defender parries and evades head kick.

Sparring with all three kicks.  Goddamn it's hard to know what defense to use in particular for some reason.  I don't typically have trouble in normal sparring, but when the pressure is on the react a specific way, it gets bad.

Conditioning: Just some bag work.  This guy doesn't work us as hard as the other guy.  The heat was still killer though.

  1. With that catcing kicks thing. I swing my left shoulder forward *or vice versa, depending on which foot they use* and bring my hands on my side and open them up. Catch them by the arch and the ankle if done correctly. I then proceed to throw them down and beat the hell out of em. Oh BTW, should i take Judo, Kempo ( I'm kinda diggin Kempo cause Chuck is so good with it ) or Muay Thai? I've got 5 years boxing experience, but I'm a big guy and Judo would be good for using my height and weight for takedowns, and submisssions. Kempo is so badass =P

  2. As always, it depends on the school, not the art.  However, if you have Zero grappling experience and are looking to be a complete fighter, go with Judo if the school is decent.
Don't judge an art by it's best fighter.  Chuck Liddell could kill most people using ballet.  He also trains in a bunch of stuff other than pure Kempo.  Judge the art based on the average fighter, because that will show how well the art adapts to your bodytype and ability.

  3. Well. I'll most likely take Judo then, because the school seemed good enough for me. I'd take BJJ but no one in Kentucky is interested in it sides me.
