Notes: Felt like I had a 4th, but considering how this cycle has been, I didn't want to push too hard. I feel like my strength is on the mend though. Also, got a much better handle on the valsalva manuever for benching here.

Hey man little question for you on benching. I realized my form was shit somewhat recently; my upper back would sometimes come up off the bench, my arch would slide out sometimes, and it just doesn't seem as stable as it shuold. I think I am pushing back off the ground instead of down, maybe... It seems I got in the habit of using a "fake" arch, that is, grabbing the bar to establish my arch at first, but then not really being able to keep it through the set. I want my traps and upper back to be like fucking glue on the bench, but am having a hard time. Do you have any cues for this other than practice the hell out of it (which I am!)? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYou could simply have a shitty, slippery bench. Have you considered applying chalk to your back and tacky to the bench?I don't bench with much of an arch. My fed requires flat feet.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the benches at my gym are just the cheap, thin black ones and are kinda slippery. I have never used chalk on my back and I would probably get bitched at for it.I have a shitty old bench at home that is not padded, an old hard bench, I think maybe I will donate it to my gym. I noticed you kind of lift your head up when you bench on your videos, I've been trying that myself lately. it feels like I can stay tight better, and especially unrack the bar with less problems with my head slightly off the bench so I might practice that more. i'im sure its a mental thing.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's a shirted technique, but I like it. Some feds don't allow it though.
