Training Log: Entry 516

ME lower day

Deadlifts
Barx3
135x3
225x3
315x3
385x2
455x1
510x1 (New PR)
515x1 (New PR)
495x1

Notes: Thought I was bridging pretty bad on these, but the video I took showed it move relatively smooth.  Bar slipped out of my hand on the first pull, but I managed to catch it and complete the rep.  Think I'm moving too fast on the deadlift, might use the next session to just work on form while sticking with 515.

Notes: Great exercise.  Can't wait to move up.

Skipped the PC work today, prolly try to squeeze in some pull throughs tomorrow after/during PT.

  1. why dont you loop your thumbs around the bar?form looked good from the front at least. I would suggest keeping your arms straight right when you start your pull, it will keep you in a better position and keep you more upright where you want to be. plus if you ever get a chance to use a DL bar (like in a competition or something) those bent arms will take off about 10% of your lift, lol.

  2. Nice lifts.
Just to branch of Reko's comment, Pavel had a nice explanation on the straight arm thing: It's basically the difference between towing a car with a taught line compared to a line with a lot of give.
Also, a question: Which CoC gripper did you start out with? I am getting the trainer, and the #1. I am hoping that my grip isn't so weak that I cannot even close the trainer, but if this is the case, I'll do negatives.

  3. My first thought was also "why aren't your thumbs around the bar?"Seems pretty solid, honestly. I didn't notice anything they didn't.

  4. That was kind of funny how you slowly approached the bar, did the lift (obviously it's not going to be shooting up at that weight, of course), and then slowly walked away, real mellow. Congratulations.

  5. For some reason, I get a better grip with a thumbless grip than thumb loop. When I loop the thumb, the bar always rolls out of my hands where the thumb is, because it's 4 fingers on one side of the bar and one thumb on the other.  When I put the thumb on the same side as all of my fingers and alternate hands, it feels like each side is stronger, but I'm working on looping my thumb now, and maybe even using a hook grip.
Yeah, watching the video made me realize that I need to keep those triceps flexed on the lift.
I started with the trainer CoC and got the 1 a month or so later.
    Thanks for all the remarks.

  6. Hook grip is awesome, but I hear it's hell on the thumbs for the first few weeks.

  7. Congratulations on your new personal record, you done very well to even lift that much weight without the aid of some type of lifting/deadlift strap. Don't listen to all of the petty haters on youtube lol which I'm sure your not.
