Training Log: Entry 522

DE lower day

Speed box squats of 205
10x2

Notes: Speed was really on today, getting good explosion off the box.  Think these have really helped my squatting performance, I'm very used to going below parallel and exploding up from there.

Good mornings of 215
6,5,5,5

Notes: Upped the weight, form was still fine.

Cut the workout short because we had to get on the road to head home.  Going to do some pistols and crunches and I'll be fine.

  1. Well, I finally caught up with the posts.---Good to know that you're getting the explosion; should have (obvious) carryover to the regular squats. I need to work on exploding with box squats, actually; should probably test box squat max at some point, since you noted a while back that using the regular squat max isn't accurate for them.

  2. If you can, get some chains or bands to really help with the explosion and decceleration phase.  I wanna start using them once I get to my next base.
Dude, you should draft up your own training log.  I'm also in San Diego right now, you should fight me =P

  3. You're 70 pounds heavier than me, and you've actually had worthwhile training. I'm stuck with Family Karate until I either leave for college or convince my parents to let me switch studios (and arts), and I'm using it for PE credit since my school refuses to acknowledge independent lifting. I wouldn't mind trying out Brikhaus, actually, but...well, back to the point, you'd steamroller me in about six seconds flat.I have put together a log, but the thing is, it's not actually online. I may start a Xanga, though, and just copy/paste directly into it until I've finished up the PHP on mine and gotten it on the web.Hrm.<.<http://www.xanga.com/jonnosferatu

  4. Cool beans. Brikhaus was pretty cool, but there's tons of gyms in San Diego, find the one that's for you.  I miss the good folks at FK, but I had a feeling you'd come to the same conclusion I did at one point.

  5. Thing is, I'm trying to find a place that's nice and close to my house. There's a highly-recommended place called Undisputed a few miles from my school, but my school's about 20 miles from my house, so I'd never be at home. Brikhaus is pretty closeby and it's already got a recommendation, so it at least serves as a reasonable alternative I could present if the issue of changing arts ever came up.As far as FK goes, I've got to agree with you on the 'good folks' thing; they're nice people, very friendly, etc., but it really just isn't what I'm looking for in my training, especially now that I'm getting into decent shape... It doesn't help that we picked up some really useless people from the WTF over the summer...they moved from Maryland, and their arrival sort of heralded the end of anything resembling serious training at the 4S Ranch studio. Arg.

  6. Well in that case, give it a go.  The boxing will be a real baptism by fire, haha.  The grappling at Brikhaus was pretty good, good amount of free rolling, I just wasn't a fan of how much info they'd bombard you with at once.
If you have AIM, you should add me sometime.
